Artist Statement

From a teacher, to an artist and an art therapist, I learnt how illusory our self identities were and “how we were all prisoners of our mind”, like Ram Dass said. Fortunately, I have art to speak my inner truth and have me grounded in this fast-changing world.

Having worked with younger children throughout my career, I always have been fascinated with how children play with art materials. When I was stuck in the art process and flooded with judgement, I always reminded myself of how children played with art.

My creative process kept changing, from geometric abstraction with mixed media, to abstract portrait in oil on mirror and glass, to abstract collage and sculpture with found objects. Each of the art phase was closely connected to my inner process and how I perceived my inner and outer reality. I don’t doubt this creative process will keep changing and evolving to accurately reflect who I am at different stages of life.

Art for me is self exploration, self expression, and mostly important, play. If I have to have a style as an artist, my style will always be playing with art as a kid.
